It was a rigorous hike through the forest to make it up to the castle. Although it was tough hike, we sang and laughed the whole way up!

The last two photos were taken by Abby as we were leaving this amazing castle in southern Germany. We spent the day hiking up the mountain and touring this castle. Believe it or not, this castle is still owned by two royal families in Germany. The original fortress was built on the Berg Hohenzollern in the 11th century. The structure was totally destroyed in 1423 and was rebuilt 1454 to 1461 and was a refuge for Roman Catholic Hohenzollern during the thirty years war. During the 18th century it was left in disrepair and then the current castle was built between 1846 and 1867. We found it really interesting that this castle had both a Protestant and a Roman Catholic Church contained within the castle walls. This castle is located in southern Germany and enjoys spectacular views of the Schwabian alps. This part of Germany, we were told, was a Protestant stronghold during the Reformation but sadly many of the reformed Protestant churches sit relatively empty while the Roman Catholic Churches are once again full. This made us realize how we need to pray for the spiritual condition of Germany, and that the Lord would have mercy on their country.
