Boldt Castle

The grand staircase...
beautiful molding...
The stainglass dome on the top of the ceiling...
The porch..

The castle itself...

This is our next destination...Boldt Castle!!! It is very pretty:) The owner, George Boldt was a Prussian born, self-made millionare. He bought Hart Island in the Thousand Islands and after much contemplation, decided to build a castle for his wife Louise as a gift. He then changed the name of the island from Hart Island to Heart Island because it was shaped as a heart. Then in 1904, before the castle was finished, Louise died at the age of 45. Right then, all the workers were told to abandon the castle. For decades, it was left to be vandlized. Then in the 1970's, the Thousand Island Port Authorities took custody of the castle and it is still undergoing restoration forty years later. So that is the history... here are the pictures.
(Do you notice little hearts on most of the parts of the house?)
