Timely Tuesday Tutorials: restoring a book shelf/desk (part 1 of 2)

Hello Everyone!
Life's been busy around here. School has started, and I'm finding that it takes a good amount of my time. Hopefully, today we'll send in the order for the Quintessence CDs so that Lord willing, they will arrive by the end of this month!
Our weather has been feeling like....well...fall! :)
We had to empty the pool yesterday and today Papa and Gabe are working on taking it down. :(
The little girls decided to go for one more final swim in the pool while Papa was emptying it. So while they were in the water swimming, I sat in the house layered in clothing drinking my hot coffee and reading my science! :D
Anyhow here is this week's timely Tuesday tutorial! :)
In our garage we had a very old book shelf/desk that had sat there for years.
Our piece of furniture was so old and ugly that at first glance, most people would probably just decide to get rid of it. Honestly, I could see nothing pretty or pleasing in this dirty, old, dusty, piece of furniture.
Here is the book shelf before we had done anything to it...

It folds down, so there is a desk on the right side....

First Mama took all the screws, hinges,drawer pulls and any other small pieces that may be reusable and      scrubbed them in soap and water.

That being done, Papa had to sand the whole book shelf and remove as much of the paint as he could.
Hannah and Papa started out sanding it by hand but it would have taken forever so we borrowed a automatic sander from our uncle. That helped a lot and soon that part was finished! :)

Also, There were a few things broken
(Like the back leg) we just glued that back together.

Here it is after the sanding was done....

The next step was easy...priming!

We did a couple coats of primer because the wood must have had some finish on it and it kept on leaking through the primer and making it look a pinkish color.  

Next we applied the Paint. (Which was the same as the one we used for the table.)

The wood was so dull and old looking that we decided once again to use Tung oil.

It worked pretty well! We ended up doing two coats.
