Something to Share With You

I wanted to share this list called "The Eight Loves of Literature" adapted by Miss Rosalie June Slater from "The Seven Loves of Literature" taken from James B. Rose's book "A guide to American Christian Education for the Home and School". I found it in a Elsie Dinsmore study guide written by Nancy Peterson which I am going to study with my sisters and my Mom. The questions after the statements are copied from the study guide. Here they are:

1. A Love for God

"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord the God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with alll thy mind."-Matthew 22:37

Ask yourself, "Does this piece of literature insire me to love God more?"

2. A Love for God's Written Word- The Holy Bible

"Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counselors."-Psalm 119:24

Ask yourself, "Does this piece of literature encourage me to "delight" in God's Word?"

3. A Love for Home and Family

"Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee"-Exodus 20:12

Ask yourself, "Do the characters in this book exemplify a love for home and family?"

4. A Love and Appreciation of the Individual

"But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ."-Ephesians 4:7

Ask yourself, "Does this piece of literature recognize the importance and value of each personality and character?"

5. A Love for Our Own Country- The United States of America(or Canada)

"For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are orained by God."-Romans 13:1b

Ask yourself, "Will you gain an appreciation of the United States of America(or Canada) by studying this piece of literature?"

6. A Love of Christian Scholarship and Learning

"Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls."-Matthew 11:29

Ask yourself, "Is this book inspirational in creating within you a love for learning?"

7. A Love for the Gospel and Soul-Winning

"The fruit of the righteous is the tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise."-Proverbs 11:30

Ask yourself, "Does this piece of literature serve as a motivator in challenging me to tell others of Jesus Christ and His plan of salvation?"

8. A Love for God's Providence

"... and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the world?"-Acts 1:8b

Ask yourself, "Does this piece of literature illustrate the providential hand of God in the spread of Christianity from person to person, country to country, and unto the uttermost part of the world?"
